If you’re wandering around Cambridge city centre trying to decide where to eat, The Tiffin Truck on Regent Street is one of those places that can easily end up on the shortlist.

It does Indian street food, tiffin-style dishes, curries, breads, vegetarian and vegan options, plus cocktails and drinks, so it works particularly well if you’re eating with people who never seem to fancy the same thing.

The restaurant also has an award in its history Best Newcomer at the English Curry Awards in 2018 but that was a while ago, so we wouldn’t book purely because there’s a trophy somewhere in the story.

The better question is: does the menu make you want to go now?

For us, that’s where The Tiffin Truck gets interesting.

You can keep things relatively simple with a tiffin lunch or one main dish, or turn it into a longer evening with street-food plates, curries, sides and a couple of drinks.

And that does mean the bill can look very different depending on the night you’re planning.

A quick lunch is one thing. Dinner with friends, extra dishes and cocktails is quite another.

So before you book, have a proper look at the current menu, pick the dishes you’d actually order and work out roughly where the total is going to land.

That tells you far more than an old award ever will.

The Regent Street restaurant is still trading at 22 Regent Street and is part of the Navadhanya group.

Feedback from diners is broadly positive, particularly around the food and service, although as with most busy city-centre restaurantsnot everybody has had the same experience.

You’ll also find occasional complaints about value, service and comfort.

That wouldn’t put us off automatically. It just means this probably isn’t somewhere to book blindly because somebody once gave it an award.

If you fancy Indian street food or tiffin-style dishes, it looks like a good shout especially for a group where everyone wants something slightly different.

I wouldn’t go in expecting bargain-basement prices or everything to run perfectly every time, but if the menu grabs you, there’s plenty here to make it worth a look.

And if somebody suggests The Tiffin Truck next time you’re standing in Cambridge saying, “Right, where are we eating?”, we certainly wouldn’t rule it out.
